Good messages = good results

All organizations must change to survive. Visual communications accelerate understanding, change adoption, and expedite message delivery because programs are less reliant on linguistic translations. “Vision is the only universal language,” said Edward Tufte, an author and luminary on information design.

Communications must clearly answer key questions:
What is happening and why? What does it mean for me? What are the next steps?

Highlight the advantages

Action

A number of creative alternatives were explored after meetings with recruiting leaders identified issues that would be most important to both new and experienced recruits.

Results

A new recruiting site was launched that described Moss Adams through employees. Recruiting software and benefits sheets were also designed to resemble website communications.

Share information effectively

Mercer is a major consulting firm and a division of Marsh & McClennan Co. Like many large organizations, their intranet had become a confusing and nearly useless maze of independently posted articles.

Action

Working with intellectual capital experts, site redesign suggestions were shown to implement SharePoint. Consulting resources would be logically organized by client need and practice.

Results

Substantial redesign efforts continue as thousands of pages are migrated to the new platform.

Make it memorable

REC Silicon adopted SAP as a new accounting platform. To achieve the benefits warranted by the multimillion dollar change, employees throughout the company needed to adopt new accounting codes or the data would be wrong.

Action

An overview of basic SAP accounting was created for distribution. A launch program was developed to build awareness and understanding, while having some fun with the topic.

Results

Workplace communications benefit from an understanding of human nature. People like to be entertained and humor can facilitate difficult changes.
