The history behind visual communications
Cave paintings at Lascaux demonstrate the earliest form of communications. Early marketing efforts demonstrated the presence of plump, juicy animals in a variety of packaged sizes.
Communicators still know that a good visual is superior to a description alone. This drawing was borrowed from my local street corner recently. I sure hope they were reunited. Our cat is an adopted stray.
Today we still use visuals whenever we want to be SURE that a message is understood, overcoming any language barriers. For example, take a look at the seat back insert next time you fly. Does it contain important information?
Visual communications were the earliest form of human expression and may be the last. The Voyager program sent a gold plated copper disk into deep space with visual descriptions of how to play the record and where it originated. The spacecraft will not make a close approach to another planetary system for at least 40,000 years.
